The Prestige Club of Nigeria held its March 2026 monthly meeting on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at the residence of the club’s immediate past President, Dr. L. Brown Ogbeifun.
The meeting commenced at 1:30 p.m. with an opening prayer delivered by the President, Prestigian T. Akpa Afi, who thanked God for His protection over members and their families. He also appreciated members who were able to attend the meeting and prayed for those who were absent for various reasons.
Key Highlights from the Meeting
Bereavement Announcements
Prestigian Chief Paul Obire informed members about the passing of his mother. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 28 March 2026 in Ododegho Town.
A Service of Songs will be held on 26 March 2026 at Church of God Mission, located off Odibo Street in Warri. The burial invitation has already been shared on the club’s platform.
Another member, Prestigian Dele Afolabi, whose mother passed away last year, announced that her burial ceremony will take place in Oyo State in April. However, due to the distance and prevailing security concerns, the club may not be able to attend collectively, although individual members may choose to attend.
Recognition and Titles
Prestigian Chief Kenneth Nwoamucha informed the house that he was officially decorated as a Justice of the Peace (JP) on 13 February 2026 and requested that he be addressed with the title henceforth.
Matters Arising: Workplace Incident
Prestigian Chief Moses Uparan shared details of an unfortunate incident in his company involving the death of one of his staff members. According to him, the individual reportedly took a dangerous substance and later jumped into a river. The body was recovered two days later.
The incident initially caused tension with the deceased’s family, but the matter was eventually resolved amicably between both parties, and the deceased has since been buried.
Membership Matters
Introduction of a Returning Member
Prestigian Ola Johnson introduced Mr. Mike Eboh, a former member of the club who left previously due to family circumstances but has now expressed interest in rejoining.
The Secretary of the Screening Committee, Prestigian Eluma Kingsley, provided details about Mr. Eboh:
- Age: 58
- Marital Status: Married with children
- Profession: School Proprietor
- Also active in politics
Mr. Eboh attended the meeting as an observer after being screened earlier.
Members’ Reactions
The immediate past President, Dr. Ogbeifun, confirmed that Mr. Eboh was indeed a former member who once served as Assistant Secretary. However, he noted that the manner in which he left the club in the past was concerning and advised that such conduct should not be encouraged in the future.
He also pointed out that the club’s maximum entry age is 50 years, though exceptions could be considered given that some current members are above 70.
After deliberations, Mr. Mike Eboh was accepted and asked to return in April 2026 for his formal induction. He was also informed that he would be expected to host the club in May 2026. He is free to attend all club events in the meantime.
Another screened individual was absent due to a family meeting in Emede.
Financial Matters
The Financial Secretary, Prestigian Dele Afolabi, presented a report on members’ indebtedness. Several members raised concerns about inaccuracies in the report.
As a result, the Financial Secretary, Treasurer, and Secretary were instructed to review and correct the records. Mr. Afolabi explained that during the period of his bereavement, when he missed meetings, the financial records were not fully available to him.
Members were encouraged to settle outstanding dues promptly.
Minutes and Documentation
Members advised the Secretary to include financial details in the minutes of meetings to prevent future misunderstandings.
The Secretary raised concerns that doing so would increase the length of the minutes, noting that he already manages documentation within the ₦4,000 monthly budget allocated for secretariat work.
Members suggested possible solutions:
- Reducing repetitive sections such as the roster, which currently takes up nearly a full page.
- Sharing meeting minutes via WhatsApp.
- Printing only two copies for official records.
Member Welfare
Members were encouraged to reach out to Prestigian Bab Adeleye and Prestigian Enakpoya, particularly noting that Prestigian Enakpoya had not communicated with the club for over a year. Members expressed the hope that he would reconnect with the club, even if only by calling during meeting hours or greeting the house through the President.
Closing
The meeting concluded with a closing prayer by Prestigian Chief Moses Uparan.
The host, Dr. L. Brown Ogbeifun, entertained members after the meeting, and prayers were offered for his family.
The next meeting host is expected to be Mike Ofenor in Egbokodo, Itsekiri, unless he declines.
